DMCA Takedown Policy

1. Overview

Knotsrespects intellectual property rights and expects users to do the same. This policy describes how to submit copyright infringement claims under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”) and how users may submit counter-notifications.

2. DMCA Notice (Takedown Request)

If you believe content on Knots infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our DMCA Agent containing:

  • Your name, address, telephone number, and email
  • Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed
  • Identification of the allegedly infringing material and its location (URL(s) and enough detail to locate it)
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on behalf of the owner
  • Your physical or electronic signature

3. Counter-Notification

If your content was removed due to a DMCA notice and you believe it was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification including:

  • Your name, address, phone number, and email
  • Identification of the material removed and the location where it appeared before removal
  • A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed due to mistake or misidentification
  • A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the U.S., a U.S. district where Knots may be found) and that you will accept service of process from the complaining party
  • Your physical or electronic signature

4. Repeat Infringers

In appropriate circumstances, Knots may terminate accounts of repeat infringers in accordance with the DMCA and other applicable law.

5. Third-Party Content

Knots displays metadata, images, and information from third-party sources including MusicBrainz, Wikipedia, Last.fm, Fanart.tv, and others. If you believe infringing content originates from a third-party source, we encourage you to also contact that source directly.

For content sourced from these services, we will work with you to address the issue, which may include removing the cached content or redirecting you to the appropriate takedown process for the original source.

6. Good Faith

Please note that under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing may be subject to liability. If you are not sure whether material available online infringes your copyright, we suggest consulting an attorney before sending a DMCA notice.
